Amsterdam Fashion Week

Milan, Paris, New York, and London might be considered the capitals of Fashion but, over the past few years since its inception, Amsterdam’s biannual Fashion Week has earned the city a special spot in the limelight of the fashion world.
What makes the Amsterdam Fashion Week so appealing is that it has successfully married the exclusive high-fashion professional platform of trade shows and business parties to a series of fashion events accessible to and specifically created for the general public.
The Uptown Program, which is invitation-only and consequently aimed at fashion professionals, contrasts with the Downtown roster of events that takes fashion to the streets, bars, galleries, museums, and cafes of Amsterdam. Catwalk shows and fashion fairs, exhibitions and cultural events, markets and parties are all open to the public and mostly free of charge.
Uptown Program
The Amsterdam Fashion Week is a major showcase for the work of local Dutch designers and fashion houses, as well as an opportunity for up-and-coming talent to debut. This melting pot for the fashion world professionals attracts top stylists, models, photographers and designers who gather to show their talents and indulge in exclusive private parties. Fashionistas will be delighted by the numerous catwalk shows of famed and lesser-known fashion houses. Aspiring models, stylists, and designers can benefit from networking opportunities, contests, free workshops, and coaching.
Downtown Program
So, what’s in it for those of you who are not into fashion? First of all, it is a perfect time to shop as numerous temporary markets and stores start selling vintage, second-hand and rare boutique clothes, and accessories. Whether you are a fashionista or not this is a great opportunity to browse unique items at attractive prices and add color to your wardrobe. This is also a chance to attend concerts, parties and a host of cultural events held only during the Fashion week. Last, but not least, you can feast your eyes upon the beautiful and elegant people working in the fashion industry who flock to the bars, restaurants, and streets of Amsterdam. More information.
Dates and Venues
The Fashion week could actually be called Fashion weeks as there are in fact two events held at different times of the year.
